What’s Going On? What Does it Mean?

video still

Before I explain this cryptic little video, I would love for you to take a stab at what you suppose it’s all about.

Description below video for people who are VI or blind.

I’m standing in front of 3 empty clear glasses on a wooden table. There’s a large pitcher in my hand. I pour liquid in first glass. The liquid is blue. I move glasses around. Fill next glass and the liquid comes out bright green. I look at glasses and decide to add just a bit more in yellow liquid glass. Consider placement of glasses. Fill last (middle) glass, liquid is deep red water. I pour some of the green water into the deep red.  Consider placement, change places of the green and deep red glass. Move pitcher in front of me, step back from table with hands down to my side.

  1. Great video!!

Hmm.. Fancy video editing skills? :) /I wish I could learn that!/
Or food coloring/Flavourade in the glasses? (I didn’t see it though!)
Or maybe you have some mad magic skills? :)

(PS The liquid in 2nd glass looks more greenish)

As for the meaning of the video – ‘things are not what they seem’? Or it’s not about what we pour out, it’s about the recipient – everyone colors it a bit differently? Hm actually, it’s about both? (You can’t drink it or paint with it if you don’t have both, and a limit=glass? Is this about setting limits and finishing stuff too? :) )
lol, I drown in my own metaphysics!

Will be interested to read other answers!

  2. Oh, if only I had fancy editing skills EcoLayla I would share everything I knew with you. As it happens, it took nearly a week and lots of help to learn how post this video on my site.

Greenish? Guess you’re right, if I were to tinkle that color I would be frightened. lol

It does seem true, “things are not what they seem sometimes.” I love your answer, it’s both poetic and thoughtful.

  3. Hi Rachel! I agree with EcoLayla that your video is great. It kept me thinking for awhile. Anyway, I have made up my mind and my interpretation is the following:

The three glasses represent different areas of your life, and how much water you fill into each glass means how much time and energy you spend on activities in these areas, for example on work, on relationship, and on fun-time. It’s your choice how much energy you spend on each, and you have the power to prioritize, that means you can change the order of the glasses. Moreover, if your life is out of balance, you decide to balance it out by putting equally much energy into each area (putting water from yellow glass into red glass).

    Cool video, Rachel!

  4. i am guessing before I look…….hummmmmm, a visual recipe to quench a procrastinator’s thirst?

    now I am really curious!

  5. Hiya!!! ok! I’m thinking. which is good.

First I want to say, I love how you paused in between each pouring of the glass, and then reached right in with conviction. that looks cool.

    I am going with balance?
    dispersing energy evenly?
    being open to possibilities?

It was unexpected when the different colors came out of the white pitcher, which makes me think that the surprise factor is important, i.e. to keep your mind flexible? And your moving water from glass to glass, speaks to being aware of your choices to better balance your areas of focus?

Perhaps you were setting up to do one of those great musical numbers where you hit pretty glasses of water with a spoon and make a lovely New Years song????

Anyhoo, it’s all delicious, thought inducing, brain food!

Thanks Rachie, looking forward to more!

  6. Hi Andrea,

I love your explanation! It’s thoughtful. I like how you suggested that it’s my choice how much energy I put into parts of my life. I’m all about choice!

    Thanks for your insights.

    Cool video, Rachel!

  7. Ooooo Lynn… I REALLY like “A visual recipe to quench a procrastinator’s thirst!”

Way glad I’ve peaked your curiosity!

  8. Hiya back at you Lynnee!!

    Thinking is good.

I will let my director/videographer (husband Matty) know you liked the “performance.”

    I am going with balance?
    *I like balance.

    dispersing energy evenly?
*I can see that. Each glass had about the same amount of water.

    being open to possibilities?
*Life is so much more interesting when we can remain open to possibilities.

The liquids changing colors was a surprise, and your idea of keeping the mind flexible is an attractive one to me. And you know I love choices.

I should have played a tune, what was I thinking? I would have liked an accompaniment though. Next video we do together?

    “Brain food” my favorite snack!
Thanks Lynn for your contribution, you ideas are great!

  9. Hmmm. Understanding what we can control and what we can’t and trying to cope with the unattended result of our actions?

  10. I don’t think the colours themselves, or the order of the glasses are important.
It seems to me that it’s to do with seeing different results – events, people, tasks – with the same things put into them. They all take time, care and thought, but produce different results.
Or maybe I hear hoofs and am thinking of zebras…

You’re releasing a new range of nagging Kool Aid, aren’t you?

  11. Dale: Wow, what a rich answer. How do we cope with the unattended results of our actions? I guess it’s easier when though results are rewarding or positive.

Mr. Burman: Busted. Nagging Kool Aid coming soon! I have a quote I like that your comment kind of reminds me of.

“In every object there’s inexhaustibly meaning, the eye sees what the eye has means to see.” Thomas Carlye

  12. Hi Rachel — Here’s a shot:

What looks plain can take on different colors when we stop holding it in (procrastinating) and let it out of the (*&*^*&^ pitcher.

What is inside is becomes different when we release it to the world.

    Cheers,
    Susan

  13. Wow, what interesting thoughts!!

I wonder what the original thought/intention behind the video was?
(Or is it just intended to spark of discussion/ideas?)

PS ProNagger, your blog makes me happy!!

Check out the award/free promo you got at my blog! :)

  14. I wonder what colour a cold-call Nag Kool Aid would be?
So, RC, is there an answer to this, or are we all yapping in the wind?! Was there something you wanted us to reach, or are all the above answers correct?
Part of me hopes there is no answer. The other part will just keep rambling!
