WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE REALLY FREAKED OUT

In the most layperson of terms and only looking at one part of your sexy brain… You have this cool, pretty evolved region of your brain called the prefrontal cortex. Your highest-order cognitive abilities occur in this fancy new part of your grey-matter. However, it’s also the region of the brain most sensitive to the detrimental effects of freaking out. Freaking out can cause a rapid and dramatic loss of prefrontal cognitive abilities. Meaning, you kinda get stupid. But you recognize that already, unless your freaking out right now, in which case, you’re still re-reading the first sentence of this note. Again.

To get your prefrontal cortex back in the game, slow down. Try to proceed at an exaggeratedly slow and relaxed pace. If you can do this, and I know it can feel counter-intuitive, your cognitive abilities will be back up to par.
