Like a night light protects a child from monsters under the bed, I turned on National Public Radio and left it on for days. It was my comfort object that first night, when I tried to sleep, 9 years ago today. My radio was a light, a thread, a way to feel closer to the ears of those who also listened.
In my area, Public Radio station WMFE is engaged in their fall fund drive. I hope the ears of those who felt a comfort from the constant of Public Radio on 9/11 and the days that followed will remember both the events as well as take action. Make sure the voices on NPR continue talking.
